Fun fact: Rimac Automobili, a Croatian EV OEM, designed and manufactured the powertrain "cassette" that powers this car. They're the stealth tech partner the industry rarely talks about.

LA custom vehicle powerhouse ICON is dabbling in EV conversions now (they've made a name with LandCruiser and Ford Bronco I gas restomods for over a decade). Specifically, old cars with patina and character are the subject, like this '49 Merc coupe. Jonathan Ward, CEO & chief designer, says he believes half of his total production run (a few vehicles each month) could be EV conversions in five years.

Closer to "affordable" (starting around $100K), British coachmaker Swindon is offering the classic British Mini as a peppy-but-not-power-mad conversion. Starting with an original Mini chassis and body, they update all the details and add some 20th century features (Satnav/streaming audio, power windows, AC, and sunroof). This seems like a sure winner for European city's tight streets and increasingly restrictive petrol car access laws.
